We’re proud to have owned Abacus since early 2013 and are committed to meeting the individual needs of every single child in our care. Bachelor of Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education Anna recently returned to Christchurch after living in Western Australia for the past 3 years. She is passionate about Infants and Toddlers and is looking forward to developing skills and knowledge in the Montessori philosophy. Anna is interests include, mountain biking, running and spending time with family and friends.
Diploma in Early Childhood Education | Montessori Diploma Book One Renee has been with Abacus for over two years. In her spare time she enjoys relaxing with friends and family and holidaying in the sun. Bachelor of Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education Montessori Diploma Book One Named after a Days of our Lives actor, Kayla loves working with children, especially in the nursery and appreciates being part of a good team at Abacus. Bachelor of Primary Teaching | Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education Katrina joined Abacus in 2012 after gaining her Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Originally trained as primary teacher 10 years ago, she loves working with young children and helping them to develop positive attitudes towards learning.
When not at work she enjoys books, movies and spending time with her husband and two adorable moggies. Bachelor Degree in Education | Diploma of Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education Priyanka is originally from India and has been living in New Zealand for three years. She then took up a graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education in Auckland. With two years’ experience in ECE Priyanka wishes to contribute to children’s learning and education through the Montessori Philosophy.
Bachelor of Primary Teaching Caz is a primary trained teacher who enjoys working with children in an environment that encourages independence and inspiration for all akonga. Bachelor of Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education Grace is new to join the Abacus Team. She has recently moved back to Christchurch after living in Nelson for six years. Montessori Book One Amy graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning ECE. Amy’s teaching practice promotes and supports learning through positive, sensitive and responsive relationship’s with all children and whanau.
Laura holds a degree in Montessori completing her studies in her home country Ireland, she is very passionate about Montessori and has a wealth of experience in working in Montessori schools. In her spare time Laura enjoys running, CrossFit, surfing and playing rugby. Diploma in Early Childhood Education NZ Nanny Certificate Leanne is our most experienced member of staff, having working in early child care for over 20 years. She’s in the Nursery on Tuesdays and Thursdays and just loves helping the children in her care to develop into confident little people.
In our prepared environment, children are not forced or coerced into learning. Montessori Education is a holistic approach that encourages and supports children to develop physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. Children work individually at their own pace with specially selected equipment and materials. This self guided structured learning develops their concentration, self discipline, independence and self esteem
