Russley Golf Club With several Christchurch golf clubs suffering major damage in the Christchurch earthquakes, Russley Golf Club was thankful to have the peace of mind of knowing they had a comprehensive insurance package in place to protect the Club if the worst happened.
The Club was fortunate to have an excellent insurance broker amongst their membership, and knew Andrew Dufton would apply the same commitment and sense of responsibility to looking after their insurance needs as he did at golf. Passionate about the community Mark is an experienced Board Member having served on his children’s School Board of Trustees, the Christchurch International Marathon Trust and the International Track Meet Trust Board. We are not bound to any insurer and will make recommendations based on our experience and knowledge of risk management. As a full time independent director, the Abbott Group’s Chairman, Graham Heenan, has served on boards for many of the South Island’s biggest and best known companies.
These include the TAB, Port of Timaru, South Canterbury Health, Canterbury Health Board, Christchurch Canterbury Marketing Tourism , Liquorland, Selwyn Plantation Board, Canterbury Laundry Service, Dairyworks, Bellmor Engineering, Hellers, and the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools Spa. During my executive career, I worked in various roles for DB Breweries in Timaru and Christchurch, including time as General Manager of all South Island operations from . My start was a lucky’ one it just happened and was never really pre planned. I was taking time out after my 13 years at DB, looking for my next business or executive challenge, when I was asked to join 3 boards within a very short space of time and it just grew from there!. The camaraderie of board members, working with some excellent and focussed management teams, the strategic challenges of business, and growing businesses both organically, and by mergers and acquisitions. Helping Hellers to grow from a small local company to a NZ wide household name.
Witnessing the emergence of Hanmer Springs as a thriving tourist town on the back of our successful developments and marketing of the Thermal Pools complex. Our massive new product development programme at the TAB which brought it alive’ in the early 1990’s we started our own TV channel, introduced sports betting bookies , added new betting options including betting on Australian races and built a completely new technology platform. The oldest two went travelling to do Kontiki tours then met and married local girls. I enjoy fishing, gardening, horse racing and playing bridge and I like watching cricket on TV especially when the Black Caps are playing well!
