What you should know about Air Canterbury
Our front desk staff manage aircraft bookings and all of the necessary istrative matters to ensure that your flying or training runs smoothly. Accounts and istration matters are managed by our finance and office staff, adjacent to Reception. Coming from a commercial background in technical sales and business development, my skills are ideally suited for the next phase of our growth. My job is easy . I am just the conductor of a whole bunch of really smart folks doing what they are good at. Our engineering team is headed by Lyn Stead, a NZCAA licensed aircraft mechanical engineer LAME . Our Chief Flying Instructor and Head of Training, Nathan Clarke, welcomes you to the Canterbury Aero Club.
As an A Cat Flight Instructor and NZCAA approved flight examiner, Nathan heads a team of flight instructors whose aim is to deliver flight training, supervision and advice of the highest standard to student and current pilots alike. With a background of both flying and business experience, Nathan combines the two in driving the successful operation of the Canterbury Aero Club and its subsidiary professional flight training company, the International Aviation Academy of New Zealand IAANZ . Canterbury Aero Club is New Zealand’s oldest aero club and as such has a long and rich history to share. Our members come from a large variety of backgrounds some of whom have flown with us for years and are a wealth of knowledge providing invaluable experience and pointers for any pilot. Around September each year our satellite airfields become a hive of activity preparing for regional and national competitions.
The faster speed of these aircraft means that they are ideal for cross country and initial training towards the instrument rating. Our 2 glass cockpit Archers are also fully appointed with Autopilot systems. It is the Canterbury Aero Club’s fastest single engine aircraft and is for cross country touring. The Piper Seneca is renowned as a fast, 6 seater aircraft offering twin engine reliability.
It provides quick, smooth transportation into smaller, local and regional airports. Rangiora Airfield was founded in 1958 by members of the Canterbury Aero Club and local business people, hence the association with the area is a long and proud tradition. Rangiora has six runways and a well equipped, welcoming clubhouse with the added luxury of an open fire for social events in winter and a sundeck for aviation tale spinning. Canterbury Aero Club members have a unique opportunity to train at an international airport and be exposed to a busy controlled aviation environment.
This provides an area for our members to train in as well as a base to fly our club aircraft from privately. West Melton has regular flight training each weekend with instructors and aircraft available. Our welcoming clubhouse and 6 runway airfield are proudly maintained by our members. West Melton provides an excellent place to hold regular social events where members make new friends and compare flying experiences
