I shouldn't tell too many about our room at Copthorne as you will all want to stay here, then I won't be able to get a room!! I recommend Spending a bit more and stay in king bedroom, have stayed in double, no comparison.
We recently had a 4 day stay at this great hotel situated in a nice quiet location just near the Christchurch airport. The location and their free 24 hour airport shuttle is fantastic! Other things worth of note are the bar and restaurant very comfortable and welcoming. The hotel is not right in the city centre, but it's close to the airport they even provide a free shuttle service so it was perfect for my needs. Michael grew up in the hotel, his family started the Commodore in December 1971, when Michael was only 4years old. Bev’s constant attention to detail ensures all areas of the hotel are picture perfect for our guests to enjoy and relax in. Sally has spent over 30 years in the vibrant Hospitality industry and has been here at the Commodore for 14 years. Suzie started at the Commodore Hotel 4 years ago in the restaurant while doing her Hospitality Management Diploma at CPIT.

After years of research and planning, the Indoor Swimming Pool was opened in 1991.
20 five star Business Level rooms were opened in the Rimu Wing increasing the room count to 136. 20 five star Business level rooms were added in the new Matai Wing, the first new hotel rooms to open in Christchurch after the devastating 2011 Earthquakes, giving the Commodore a total of 156 rooms

In 1952, after being sold by the Bank of New Zealand, Tom and his family moved from Waimate to Opawa, Christchurch, owning and operating the Opawa Terminus for three years. After the death of her husband, Nonie Ward came to Christchurch with her family in 1953 and purchased the Stonehurst Hotel in Gloucester Street. During the next three and a half years, Tom worked at Ballantynes as a Trainee Buyer. During that time, High Street had the second highest foot count in New Zealand.
In 1971, together with the Ward Family, Tom Patterson started the Commodore Hotel. The Rimu Wing was opened, building 16 rooms in time for the 1974 Commonwealth Games, bringing up the room count to a total of 40 rooms. In 1979, The New Zealand Institute of Management Advanced management programme held their first conference at the Commodore, marking the beginning of conferences at the Commodore. After years of research and planning, the Indoor Swimming Pool was opened in 1991.
