In addition to providing easily accessible surgical services we provide quality continuing education to rural health professionals via a high speed telepresence network. Rather than replace existing health services, we act as a catalyst for communities and rural health professionals to develop better rural health systems
Pauline has a real interest in novel and effective provision of professional development for professionals busy in rural communities, having provided training and promoted virtual professional teamwork around the country, including active with distant communities. Changeable Health Solutions HHS employs a Clinical Nurse Leader CNN and unaesthetic Technician AT to ensure the smooth running of the surgical list and to provide the key join between the Mobile Surgical Unit, the local nursing staff and the surgeon and anesthetist.
On the Changeable Surgical Unit we use a number of different types of anesthetic. He manages the HHS video communication education network which provides professional development for abundant small rural hospitals and also the Jeri operative training provided by HHS for rural nursing staff. Following the closure of the theater in January 2012, the focus has been on providing an endoscopy service for the community as well as an ongoing surgical service, with the Moveable Surgical Unit visiting every five weeks. A Christchurch urologist in clinical practice and sometime member of the Fresh Zealand Board of Surgery and Australasian Board of Urology, Dr Rowland was awarded the Queen’s Service Order in the Fresh Year’s honors list of 2001 for services to medical standards and rural health. Being able to visit rural and distant sites is an interesting segment of the role especially as the HHS team is perpetual made so welcome in the rural communities. A core service of ours has been to produce ongoing professional development to rural health professionals.
Having been involved in a trivial rural town, I have seen the benefits of having an accessible surgical service available for everyone, so it is a privilege to be able to continue occupied and providing this service to people in rural areas through the Mobile Surgical Unit. Denise joined the Changeable Health team in 2010 in a fulltime role of Clinical Nurse Manager where she has overall clinical responsibility of the service. The other vehicle, the Satellite Van Satan, allows anywhere in the country accessible by road to host a video conference. She has been a registered anesthetic technician for the end 16 years and has held an educational role as a national assessor for anesthetic students, through the Auckland University of technology, for four years.
She is based in Ashburton and has worked for many years in the insignificant rural hospital the preceding ten years of which have been in the operating theater in both a clinical and a management role
