Norman Waite Snr, the youngest of 11 children, came to NZ in 1920 to follow his older brothers who had emigrated a few years earlier. He worked with them as a painter in Auckland, and moved to Hamilton in 1929 to start up a painting business there. After 18 successful years in the Waikato, he moved to Oamaru in 1994 and continued the tradition trading as National Decorators.
