Science Alive! is a not for profit trust, dedicated to educating the public about science and technology within the Canterbury region, through interactive experiences. In the meantime, we continue our important work with outreach programmes and events within the community. Science Alive! was established in 1991, as a science and technology learning and entertainment centre. On 22 February 2011, following a series of earthquakes, the building was evacuated.
Three weeks after the earthquake, we turned our energy and focus to our Outreach programmes within the community. Science Alive! was also appointed the lead contractor to construct mechanical interactives for Te Papa, The National Museum of New Zealand. Following the loss of our building during the earthquakes, Science Alive is in the process of developing an amazing fresh science center, rehearsed for 2018!. Education Outreach Science Alive! Brings hands on science and technology education programmed to your classroom.

Year 3 4 new programmed During this laughter hands on exploration students will gain an accepting of plain machines and how we use them to make our lives easier. Year 3 to 6 students are guided through a build for a evening light, Year 7 8 students are provided with resources to design and build their own light sculpture. Science Alive will host the project with students from Christchurch Schools. Year 3 6 fresh programmed Students learn about energy and how it is used to generate electricity.
With interactive demonstrations and by building Lego models, students can investigate energy transfer, generate electricity and use it to power Lego vehicles. Year 3 to 6 students are guided through a build for a night light, Year 7 8 students are provided with resources to design and construct their own light sculpture.
