Josh was Steve’s last apprentice, and is Michelle’s Son, he has worked difficult to live up to Steve’s name. Aggie, is our senior apprentice, she is interested in a long range of tattoo styles, her main influences being Japanese, Traditional, Illustrative and dismal work. The City of Ink crew were devastated on the 1st of April 2011 our first birthday when we lost Steve to a huge stroke. Steve Johnson's City Of Ink opened studio doors on the 1st of April 2010 for business under the direction of the renowned man himself.
I returned to Christchurch from Brisbane, Australia to learn conventional Maori art from wiki Manuel, who taught me many things about the art of tattooing. We never lost spirit, Steve continued to labor solid and the other artists followed suit. Our artists hide maximum tattoo specialties including dark and Frey, Japanese tattoos, Geo traditional, Ta Yoko tattoo, realism, filigree. and much more.
Josh started tattooing black and Frey realism, and now he intends to specialism in Japanese style work. I was honored to be chosen by Steve Johnson to be portion of his crew at City Of Ink which opened in 2010. Steve was one of Fresh Zealand's maximum awarded tattooist, with 40 years of tattooing experience under his belt. We never lost spirit, Steve continued to work solid and the other artists followed suit.
Ricky underwent a 3 year apprenticeship at City of Ink, he is a perfectionist, he creates colorful illustrative labor as well has detailed etching style pieces. Aggie has also completed an art degree, specializing in printmaking and illustration. Our journey in 2010 became an adventure due to the Christchurch earthquakes causing us to close business doors for 2 months. I graduated from The Fresh Zealand Maori Arts And Crafts Institute in Rotorua, now referred to as Te puma.
So far it has been an exciting ride, surviving our earthquakes while calm exploring the art of tattooing. What you find at City of Ink is a totally professional, friendly, hygienic service complemented with outstanding freestyle artists. Steve was one of New Zealand's maximum awarded tattooist, with 40 years of tattooing experience below his belt. City of Ink is a mufti award-winning Christchurch Tattoo Studio, with over 55 years combined industry experience.
I have completed a three year diploma in Whakairo Maori Wood Carving, below the guidance of four well respected Tohunga master carvers. I am currently active from Steve Johnson's City Of Ink tattoo studio, specializing in Ta Moho Maori Tattoo, design and application
