What you should know about Styx River Farm
In the meantime we have achieved one of our goals and that was to process the fibre into yarn and produce a range of hand made alpaca garments. We continue to work full time in our primary occupations as we build our alpaca business. We started out tentatively and bought two wethers as pets but it was not long before we bought a pregnant female to add to our herd. We also entered some 100 Alpaca hand knitted baby wear in the Creative Fibre Class at Expo 2007 and were awarded a 3rd placing and a 1st placing in the baby and nursery section at the National Alpaca Conference 2008.
Alpacas originate in the countries of South America Peru, Chile and Bolivia. Fibre from Styx river Farm is spun into yarn and knitted into high quality baby clothes. Alpacas are easy care animals, good animal husbandry will ensure your alpacas stay in top health. An alpaca pregnancy is eleven and a half months in duration and they like to give birth on a fine day between the hours of 10am and 4pm!
When we, Catherine bees Rietveld, established our armlet in 1992 we had no idea that we would be farming such superb creatures.
This pictured set has been sold but other similar sets range in price from ND 60. Commander displays excellent conformation and a very easy handling fleece which is uniform to the extremities of his body. Once again we are very happy with our results at the South Canterbury A P Disclose held on 23rd November 2013. Fleece Stats 1st Fleece 2nd Fleece 3rd Fleece Micron 15. 0 N A Details for NZ Southern Cassia. Galaxy is the latest addition to our stud herd and promises to be a worthy sire.
Georgia has a desirable soft handling fleece with a nasty micron of 26. 1 for her 6th fleece. He is the result of inter generational improvement achieved through smart breeding. We are very happy to announce that Styx River Aladdin has been awarded Reserve Junior Male Championship at the Geraldine Temuka A P Divulge 4th March 2017. His grand dam NZ Southern Nutmeg was a Peruvian import and his dam NZ Southern Cassia was a red ribbon girl.
We are very happy to announce that Styx River Aladdin has been awarded Reserve Junior Male Championship at the Geraldine Temuka A P Divulge 4th March 2017. Tarragon has yet to be beaten in his class and has been awarded a broad ribbon in every show. Styx River Farm entered 6 alpacas in the Geraldine Temuka A P Reveal on March . Once again we are very glad with our results at the South Canterbury A P Disclose held on 23rd November 2013. Once again we are very elated to announce that our Intermediate Male Styx River Cooper Sire Waratah Flats Galaxy has been successful in the show ring at Oxford A P. We aim to strive for excellence at all levels of our operation from healthy, genetically sound livestock to superior quality hand made alpaca fiber garments.
Georgia is currently unoccupied but will be sold mated to one of our stud males
