Each load involved a trip to Hay River from Yellowknife to load, then up to Yellowknife for dispatch on to the winter road. A mighty company ethos of product design and development, product quality and customer service are very crucial to myself and all those who labor for Weft. Four WholeGarment state of the art knitting machines now take center stage at the Christchurch plant, which Seaward said has been segment of Weft’s huge growth phase. Its 2005 range was the beginning year Weft pushed the envelope in both these areas, Seaward said.
The softness of the merino wool and possum fur felt extravagant and I loved them. The weather was unbelievably hot one day we recorded a staggeringly warm 19c far too hot to wear thermal underwear! I tested several articles of clothing merino underwear, merino wool and possum fur gloves, gloves of possum fur with artificial fibers, plus merino wool and possum fur socks. In 8 weeks I covered about 21,500k’s of highway driving and about 25,00k’s of ice road. Merino possum accessory lines are also an important portion of our product range.
Weft’s product lines are knitted and made at its own high tech knitting plant. We still have our tourist base but we’ve now taken it more into the domestic fashion market and nobody has done that before. The company produces a range of both thermal wear and knitwear with brands focused on markets within Fresh Zealand and also overseas. Merino possum garments have traditionally been targeted at the tourist market, but this latest range of Dark Label Merino Possum has been transformed into more of a fashion item, Seaward said.
There are dining facilities at each of the mines and a road camp at Lockhart Lake as healthy as a base camp in Yellowknife
